We can see rainbows when the sun comes out after or during a rainstorm. Rainbows appear when sunlight shines through drops of water in the sky at a specific angel1. When white sunlight enters a raindrop, it gives the raindrop a different color. When light leaves lots of different raindrops at different angles, it shows red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet that we can see in a rainbow. Sometimes, we can also see these colors in waterfalls.
Did you know that there are double rainbows? In a double rainbow, light reflects2 twice inside water drops and forms two arcs3.
