This is good

　This story is about a king and his close friend. The friend had a habit of looking at everything that happened in his life and saying, “This is good!”
　One day the king and his friend went to hunt1. The friend did something wrong and shot the king. The king lost his thumb2. The friend said as usual, “This is good!”
　“No, this is not good!” the king became angry and sent his friend to jail3.
　About a year later, the king was hunting in a dangerous place. Cannibals4 caught him. They tied him up and were going to set fire to him. But when they found that the king lost a thumb, they let him go. They never ate anyone that was less than whole.
　As he returned home, he remembered his friend. He went to the jail at once to speak with the friend. “You were right,” he said. “It was good that my thumb had gone.” Then he told the friend what had just happened. “I am very sorry for sending you to jail for so long. It was bad of me to do this.”
　“No,” his friend answered, “This is good!”
　“What do you mean? How could it be good that I sent my friend to jail for a year?”
　“If I had not been in jail, I would have been with you.”
