The lion's share

　One day an ass¹, a fox and a lion agreed to help each other find food. They thought this would make sure none of them would be hungry.

　They did an excellent job when they looked for food together. The ass would keep an eye out for animals which could be their food. When the ass saw an animal, he would go up to the animal and introduce himself. This would let the fox and the lion know that an animal was available². Then the fox would come out to scare the animal, and the animal would go to the path of the lion. The lion would come out to kill the animal.

　When they came back home that night, they decided to divide the animal. The ass cut the animal meat into three equal parts.

　The lion looked at the meat for a minute, and said to the ass, “Do you think you should have an equal part like me?” He then jumped on the ass and killed him.

　Then he asked the fox to divide the food. The fox carefully cut a much bigger part for the lion, and the very smaller one for himself.

　“Who has taught you how to divide, my dear fox?” the lion asked.

　“I learned it from the ass, Sir,” answered the fox. He made up his mind never to take a lion as a partner in the future.
