Less exams and new service

　The new semester¹ brings new changes. New rules are coming out to reduce pressure² on China’s primary and middle school students.

　The first piece of good news is that there will be fewer exams! First and second graders in primary schools will not have any written exams. Junior school students will have midterms and final exams, but no weekly or monthly tests.

　More students will go home with their parents instead of their grandparents. This is because primary and junior high schools now need to offer an after-class service³. It’s called the “5+2” service. Schools will offer the service at least five days a week for two hours a day. Students can stay at school until their parents get off work.
