Chinese white dolphin
The East China Sea is home to many rare species1, including the Chinese white dolphin. It’s also called the “pink elf2 in the sea” or the “giant panda of the sea”.
The Chinese white dolphin has pink skin. It was once in danger because of problems like water pollution and over-fishing. In China, it is under first-class state protection.
Chinese people have been protecting the sea in recent years, so we can see the dolphins more often now. Since 2017, the dolphins have been seen in many parts of Fujian Province, including Quanzhou Bay, Ningde, Xiamen and Fuding. Experts said Chinese white dolphins are sensitive3 to water quality. And increase in their number means that the environment is getting better.
