Pen Pal Day

　June 1st is Pen Pal Day. It’s the day to show thanks to your pen pals or key pals. I’m sure most of us have had a pen pal at one time in our lives. Many of us still have one.

　Nowadays, most people communicate by e-mail, WeChat or text messaging. We type rather than write with pens. Times have changed since the original idea of a pen pal.

　Many language students make pen pals because it’s a great way to practice writing in another language. There are many websites people can visit to find a pen pal.

　Being pen pals can lead to lifelong¹ friendships. Some pen pals meet face to face and others even get married. It is natural for us to want to communicate with other people and share our hobbies, interests and facts about our life.

　The traditional mailing of a letter may go out of style. But for some people, it is more exciting. The experience of opening and reading a letter from a pen pal was special.
