Birds that can’t fly

飞翔是鸟类的特技，但是经过了几百万年的进化和对生存环境的适应，有一些鸟类逐渐丧失了飞行能力。世界上大约有40多种不会飞的鸟，我们一起来认识一下其中的几种吧！
Some birds, such as the ostrich1 and emu2, can’t fly at all. Emu is the largest bird in Australia and the second largest bird in the world after ostrich. Both of them have wings but don’t use them, because they have strong legs that make them very fast runners.
The cassowary3 lives in northeastern Australia. It is the second largest bird in Australia. It doesn’t really look like a bird. It stands as tall as a person, with a high crest4 on its head. It can’t fly because it is too heavy.
Kakapo5 is the only parrot which cannot fly. It lives in New Zealand. It is the heaviest parrot in the world. Its wings are quite short for its size. It can’t fly, but it is a good climber. It is active at night and likes to be alone.
