I Am Somebody

Everything dreams of being famous and being somebody. The fact is, however, most of them end up being nobodies. Hong Kong director Derek Yee’s film I Am Somebody tells stories about some young people trying to become famous actors and actresses.
Yee spent three years making this film. He did a lot of work and talked with over 1,000 young people. He wrote their stories in his film.
In the film, Wan Guopeng, the son of the a woodcutter, comes a long way from Northeast China with only 1,000 yuan in his pocket. He gets to the big city and dreams of becoming an actor. In real life, when Yee asked him to act in the film, he had only 20 yuan left. But he never thought of giving up.
Yee chose real nobodies to play in the film. He even used their real names. He is trying to tell people: everyone has the right to have a dream and work hard to make it come true.
