Penguins, polar bears and amazing aerial photography(空中摄影) can only mean one thing—the second series of the BBC documentary Frozen Planet is finally here.
In this follow-up to 2011’s Frozen Planet, the six-part series, Frozen Planet II, revisits the Arctic and Antarctic. It also shows the wildlife dramas that play out in all the world’s coldest areas, such as high mountains and frozen deserts.
While there are lighter moments, the ever-changing frozen planet is a central theme of the documentary. Mark Brownlow, executive producer(总制片人) of the series, points out that Frozen Planet II is not just about good filming but also “draws attention to changes going on now”.
It shows that many polar animals are facing great challenges caused by climate change. For example, harp seal pups(格陵兰海豹幼崽) in the Arctic rely on sea ice for the first six weeks of life. However, sea ice today melts and breaks up sooner in spring. The pups are falling off the ice into the ocean before they learn to swim. Chinstrap penguin chicks use their fluffy fur to stay warm. Due to a warming Antarctica more rainy days have caused them to have hypothermia(体温过低).
