Dance makes it to schools

　We usually watch a lion dance during the festivals. But now students in Tengxian of Guangxi learn the lion dance at schools. It becomes an interesting school subject there. Students from kindergarten to high school all practice the lion dance to pass down¹ the traditional dance.

　As a kind of old dance in China, the lion dance has a history of more than 1,000 years. In China, people think the lion dance can bring good luck and drive away² bad things. This is why the dance is still popular till now. There are many kinds of lion dances in different places. The Tengxian Lion Dance is one of them. It includes martial arts, dancing and music.

The schools in Tengxian think it’s a good way for students to keep healthy, as well as improve their learning. So they call on children to take part in the activities and competitions of the lion dance. Now, there are over 600 students learning the traditional dance.
