A Sick Day for Amos McGee was written by Philip C. Stead and illustrated(加插图于) by his wife Erin E. Stead. It is a story about the importance of friendship and dedication(奉献).
Amos McGee is a kind and friendly gentleman and he works in a zoo as a zoo keeper. He has five special animal friends: the elephant, penguin, rhino(犀牛), owl(猫头鹰) and tortoise(乌龟). The elephant enjoys playing chess. The penguin is a little shy. The rhino is easy to get allergies(过敏).The owl is afraid of the dark. The tortoise enjoys racing.
Each day Amos McGee finds time to spend with his animal friends. But one day Mr. McGee is too sick to go to work. After waiting patiently, his friends decide to take the bus to visit him. Each animal finds their own unique way to help make Amos feel better, such as playing chess with him, keeping his feet warm.
This is one of the best children’s books for teaching kids the importance of taking care of one another.
