It was 1997. Shi Guang, a third-grade student, found an old Go board(棋盘) in his grandfather’s house. He touched it and a spirit(精魂) suddenly showed up. The spirit’s name was Chu Ying. He was a Go master who lived 1,000 years ago! With Chu’s guidance, Shi became interested in the game. He faced many challenges and finally became a Go master.
This is the story of the TV show Hikaru No Go(《棋魂》). It was adapted(改编) from a 1999 Japanese cartoon. Although it might be different from the Japanese show, the characters’ passion and dedication (热爱和投入) are still there.
For example, Shi meets many other young Go players on the show. Yu Liang is lonely and doesn’t know how to make friends. Shen Yilang doesn’t have the money for Go lessons. Hong He finds that he isn’t as talented as other players. But none of them has given up on Go—it’s the passion and light of their lives.
“People will see how powerful a person can be when they fight for what they really love,” said Zhu Zhenhua, the show’s producer(制片人).
