永日方戚戚，

Oh, melancholy all the day,

出行复悠悠。

Now you are going far away.

女子今有行，

Miss Yang, you will take a light boat,

大江溯轻舟。

On the great River you will float.

尔辈苦无恃，

You have no mother on whom to depend,

抚念益慈柔。

A helping hand to you I’ll lend.

幼为长所育，

The elders have a loving heart:

两别泣不休。

Tears stream from our eyes when we part.
