You know about bird watching, but what about “tree watching”? In her book Seeing Trees: Discover the Extraordinary Secrets of Everyday Trees, Nancy R. Hugo shows you that there’s much more to a tree than what meets the eye.

By looking at 10 common tree species(种类), such as oaks(橡树), pine(松树), and poplars(杨树), Hugo opens up the world of trees from “head” to “toe”, including their leaves, flowers, buds (芽), leaf scars(疤痕), and bark(树皮). You may think because they stand still, tree watching is easier than bird-watching. However, “trees can be elusive(难以捉摸的)”, Hugo writes in the book. She shows you how to look past the leaves to find often overlooked features, such as a tree’s flowers and fruits. Written in easy-to-understand language, Hugo offers us strategies(策略) to kick-start their “tree watching” hobby. The book also features many amazing tree pictures, including close-ups(特写) and whole tree shots.
