How do you survive(幸存) the end of the world? Gints Zilbalodis, a Latvian filmmaker, offers a kind answer to this question in his new film Flow(《猫猫的奇幻漂流》). The animated movie(动画电影) came out on Feb 28 on the Chinese mainland, and has won this year’s Oscar for best animated feature. It follows the journey of a cat who must find safety after its home is destroyed(摧毁) by a flood(洪水).Without any humans or spoken words, the movie tells a simple but interesting story, said The New York Times. The animals do not take on common human habits. Instead, they communicate with their own animal sounds. “Zilbalodis pays these animals the respect(尊重) of watching them closely,” said NPR. Each animal also has their own personality. The cat, for example, is clever, brave and kind, while the lemur is greedy(贪婪的) and loves collecting shiny things.
As the animals continue their journey on the water, they learn the importance of trust and working together. The cat shares food with others and the dog starts looking out for everyone’s safety. It’s a story about “learning to adapt to(适应) life’s everchanging flow, no matter how bad things may sometimes get,” said NPR. In the end, it’s kindness and teamwork that will save them.
