    “A man can be destroyed but never defeated (打败),” US Ernest Hemingway said. This line is the slogan (口号) for his novel The Old Man and the Sea.
　This story is about an aged fisherman, Santiago, who hopes to catch a big fish. However, on his return journey, he meets a group of sharks. The sharks stop Santiago from catching the fish and he returns home with nothing.
　Is this a failure? No. We believe he is a successful old man. He is brave and optimistic (乐观的) in the face of great difficulties. The Old Man and the Sea teaches us that the value of struggle

(奋斗的价值) lies not in getting our goals, but in the process of effort itself.
