Imagine a man who is almost totally paralyzed(瘫痪的), and has to stay in a wheelchair(轮椅) for the rest of his life. Can he take it? You may think his life is hopeless. But this man didn’t think so, because he had a great friend.
In the movie The Upside (《触不可及》), Philip is a paralyzed man. His friend Dell is his life assistant, who was once a prisoner(犯人). At first, no one believed that he could handle the job because he is careless, lazy and rude. But Philip accepts him. Despite Dell’s clumsy(笨拙的) behavior, Philip can see his empathy(同情心).
Dell not only takes care of Philip physically. When Philip is afraid to date his pen pal, Dell steps out and invites the woman right away. Dell also takes him to face his fear—paragliding(滑翔伞运动). Philip became paralyzed in a paragliding accident years ago. But with the encouragement of Dell, he fights his fear and flies across the sky. He realizes that he has always been a broken circle, and Dell is the missing part he needed—the positive part in his heart.
In this movie, Dell is a black man who used to be a prisoner, while Philip is a rich, white man. But they both put aside prejudice(偏见) and the identity gap to enjoy life together. “He’s my right-hand man(得力助手),” said Philip. I believe such a friendship will last forever.
