India and the Fairies

Zhao Yiyi is 11 years old. She was born in Hong Kong, and now studies and lives in California, US. Zhao did something amazing recently—she wrote a fairy-tale book in English called India and the Fairies.
The book has six stories. Each one has magic and tries to tell us something big. For example, in Wolfsville, a young girl saves a wolf and makes friends with it. In Lily, a leopard(猎豹) is sad because people ruin(毁坏) her home. “Through fairy-tales, we can call on people to love our friends and families, nature and animals, or whatever is beautiful,” said Zhao.
Zhao likes reading the US magazine National Geographic. From it, she learned that all dogs come from wolves. Then she got the idea of the story Wolfsville.
For Zhao, it’s important to be imaginative and think freely. “When I look at plants, I think of fairies sitting on leaves. When I look at buildings, I think of big monsters trying to get me,” Zhao said. “You can be a little bolder(大胆的) with your ideas.”

Patience is important too, according to Zhao. She writes when an idea comes. When it goes away, she reads a book or goes outside to see different things in nature. She just waits for it to come to her again!
