Chinese author Feng Yulan got the idea for this book—The Drifting Bottle from a true story that happened over 30 years ago.
It is a story about friendship, adventure (冒险) and learning about different cultures. The book follows Jiang Lehang, a Chinese boy who meets a South African girl at a summer camp. Later, they discover a shared history when they find a drifting bottle (漂流瓶) that connects their parents’ lives. Through a story full of curiosity and discovery, the book shows China’s maritime (海上的) achievements and the development of the Maritime Silk Road.
