The Old Man and the Sea is a short novel written by the famous US writer Ernest Hemingway. He uses simple language to talk about the deeper meanings of life. The book is about an old fisherman in Cuba named Santiago. He catches a huge fish after 84 days of nothing. The fish pulls his boat on the sea for two days and nights. Then, suddenly, the old man meets a shark. They fight to the death, but the big fish is still eaten by the shark. The old man goes home with only the bones of the fish.
What strikes(使……印象深刻) me the most is how Santiago fights with the shark. When fighting against the shark, the old man has many heartfelt conversations with himself. These conversations show how he encourages himself to rise above difficulties. Although Santiago could not protect the fish, he tries his best to protect his pride. Faced with a long period of failure and being alone, he does not choose to give up, but believes in himself and challenges the sea.

The story shows us that even if we fail, our hard work still matters. Santiago’s attitude(态度) of never giving up, his love for life, and his excitement for new adventures(冒险) give us hope. Like Santiago, we all face challenges in life. If we remain brave, hopeful and unafraid of failure, we can find our meaning in life.
