More than 40 students from Beijing Academy took part in a space exhibition. It was organised by the school’s Space Club. The event was the result of a full year of planning, research and teamwork.“We showed China’s progress in satellites1, manned spaceflight 2 and deep-space exploration,” said student curator3 Cui Meishan. The students started their project last September. They visited the China Space Museum and the Beijing Satellite Manufacturing Factory to get photos and real data. Then they split into small groups to make their display boards.
At first, things didn’t go well. “We argued a lot,” said Cui. “Some wanted more pictures; others wanted more words, but finally we did it.” They created PowerPoint slides and showed them in class. After each round, teachers gave them advice, so they met again to change the layout4, colours and words. Finally, after editing, the group finished their designs and started building the real boards by hand.
Student Wang Lin worked as a guide for visitors. “I practised many times at home,” Wang said. “I wanted to speak clearly and confidently.” Teacher Liu Ya said the exhibition mixed science and art. “Space is about exploring the unknown, and art brings imagination and beauty,” she said. “This project helped students see that learning can also be creative.”
