Xu Teli, born in 1877, came from Changsha, Hunan province. After the establishment1 of People’s Republic of China2 in 1949, he devoted3 himself to education in his seventies. He believed that as an Party member4, he should never forget to keep the fine conducts5 of the Party, especially the “seeking truth from facts” working style.

Whether in wartime or peacetime, Xu always treated himself as an ordinary citizen. He would never become arrogant6 because of his age, high status and great contributions.

Later, Xu was provided with a special car by the Party organization7, but he rarely took it. Xu said: “Life is still difficult for our people at present. How can we increase spending8 of our country and further burden?”

In 1968, Xu donated his savings of years to the Party at the end of his life. He said to his children, “What you should inherit is not my possessions9, but the revolutionary10 spirit of the older generation.”
