Yang Jingyu was a famous Chinese soldier who fought against the Japanese invaders1 during Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. He is remembered as a national hero for his courage and determination.
Yang Jingyu was born in 1905, in Henan Province. He joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1927. Later, he went to Northeast China to lead the fight against the Japanese army. His soldiers lived in the forests and mountains, attacking Japanese troops in surprise raids2. The Japanese called him “The Invincible General” because he was so hard to defeat.
In February 1940, Yang was surrounded3 by Japanese soldiers in Jilin Province. He fought alone for days without eating. When he was finally captured, the Japanese were shocked—they found only tree bark, grass, and cotton in his stomach. He had been starving but still refused to surrender4.
Yang Jingyu’s story teaches us about bravery, loyalty, and love for one’s country. His famous words were: “Even if I die, my spirit will live on. The revolution will never stop!”
