The medals for the 15th National Games were shown at a ceremony in Guangdong. Named “Tong Xin Yue”, they represent1 the strong teamwork of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in fighting for a brighter future.
For competitive events, the medal weighs 354.5 grams. On one side is an emblem2 made of petals standing for Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. These petals form a flower, symbolising the close ties between them. Below it lies a peony flower, which represents the development of the Greater Bay Area with the support of the motherland. Encircling the medal are three water rings in the shape of a Mobius strip with 66 lines representing the 66-year history of the National Games. On the other side, a Chinese white dolphin, the Games’ mascot, holds a torch3. Waves around it form the number “15”.
For the first time in the history of the National Games, the front side of the medal has no text. This simple design followed suggestions from athletes who think the medal’s meaning speaks for itself.
The medal for mass events is lighter, weighing 232 grams. An emblem and the sporting event’s name are on its front. On the other side, there is a Chinese white dolphin and an important historic message about developing sports.
