Why are you so happy?
A bird went to look for its happiness. It saw a little wilting1 flower smiling happily. The bird asked the flower, “You’re going to die. Why are you still so happy?”
“Because my dream will come true,” said the flower.
“What’s your dream?” asked the bird.
“To bear delicious fruit.”
Then the little bird saw it: happiness is hope in the heart.
The little bird kept flying. It flew and saw a lame2 duck singing a song. It asked the duck, “Life is unfair to you. Why are you still so happy?” “Because I saw a little duck fall,” said the duck.
“So are you happy because you saw it fall?” asked the bird.
“No, I’m happy because I helped it stand up again.”
Then the little bird saw it: happiness is love in the heart.
The bird kept flying. It saw a spider climbing up a slippery3 wall. The spider fell off the wall again and again. The little bird asked the spider, “You failed so much. Why are you still trying?”
“As long as I keep climbing, there is still hope. Because of this, I’m so happy,” said the spider.
The little bird saw it: happiness is faith in the heart.
So the little bird saw the truth: happiness is not far away but in your own heart.
