Student athlete Yang Qian

　Although she wore a face mask, her smiling eyes and the shape of a heart she made with her arms had touched people around the world.

　Yang Qian is a young Chinese markswoman¹. She won the first gold medal for our country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with a victory in women’s 10-meter air rifle². There was loud music and people shouted aloud at the Asaka Shooting Range, but Yang kept calm and won the game. Later, she won the 10-meter air rifle mixed team gold with Yang Haoran on Tuesday.

　“I tried not to think much and just focused on my rifle,” Yang said. “My strength lies in my mental stability³. I’ve always been able to cheer myself up.”

　Yang Qian was born in Ningbo, Zhejiang, in 2000. She picked up the rifle at the age of 11. And she is also a junior student at Tsinghua University now. She became successful thanks to her calm, confidence and humility⁴.
