Why do vegetables taste yucky¹?

　Do you hate broccoli²? Some kids do! Don’t blame³ them. A new study shows that this is because of something in our mouths.

　That thing is called cysteine lyases⁴.When it meets broccoli, they join and make a bad smell. Some people have more of it in their mouths than other people. So, they will have a stronger dislike of broccoli.

　Scientists also found that kids hate broccoli more than adults, even when they have the same amount of cysteine lyases. It shows that over time, our tastes can change. As we eat more of the foods we hate, we slowly learn to enjoy them.
