Lessons at American schools

In the US, school gardening1 is now very popular. Parents and teachers are all very fond of these hands-on lessons.

Students are excited about the gardening lessons, too. The lessons give them a new way of learning and help them relax. The students don’t have to sit at their desks all day. They have a chance to move outside and get their hands dirty. Also, the gardening lessons teach them something that they cannot learn in the classroom.

Teachers teach gardening with a purpose. In gardens, they ask the students to watch carefully. The students can see the beginning, the middle and the end of their project. However, some schools don’t have enough space for a garden. The students can then turn to community2 gardens or parks.

“Gardening is an important subject,” many teachers say. “It not only lets students know where our food comes from, but also makes them have more respect for the planet. Gardening is not just a hobby. It’s a life skill.”
