      在前面的章节中，我们已经学习过指示代词this、that的一些用法。在本章中，我们将继续学习this、that及其复数形式these、those的用法。
　　1. 介绍一个人时，常用句型“This/That is...”；介绍多人时常用句型“These/Those are...”。如：
　　Those are my friends.
　　那些是我的朋友们。
　　Bob, these are my grandparents.
　　鲍勃，这是我的祖父母。
　　2. 为避免重复，可用that和those代替前面提到的名词。如：
　　The cup of my father is bigger than that of my mother. （that=the cup）
　　我爸爸的杯子比我妈妈的杯子大。
　　3. 用来回指上文提到的事情时，可用this或that，但若要指下文叙述的事情，通常要用this。如：
　　—Tom is clever.
　　—汤姆很聪明。
　　—Who said that?
　　—谁说的？
　　I want to know this: Is Tom clever?
　　我想知道这个事：汤姆聪明吗？
　　4. 除用作代词外，this和that还可用作副词，用以修饰形容词或副词，意为“这么”、“那么”，相当于so。如：
　　Is your mother always this busy?
　　你妈妈总是这么忙吗？
　　I can do only that much.
　　我只能做那么多。
　　5. 指示代词this, that和these在作主语和定语时可指人或物；但作其他句子成分时只能指物，不能指人。如：
　　（对）These are her pencils.(these作主语，指物)
　　这些是她的铅笔。
　　（对） That is my friend.(that作主语，指人)
　　那是我的朋友。
　　（对）I want to buy those apples. (those作定语，指物)
　　我想买那些苹果。
　　（对）He is going to marry this girl.（this作定语）
　　他想娶这个女孩。
　　（错）He is going to marry this.（this作宾语时不能指人）
　　在回答主语是this, that引导的一般疑问句时，答语中用it来代替问句中的this或that；回答主语是these, those的一般疑问句时，用they来代替these和those。如：
　　—Are these your books?
　　—这些是你的书吗？
　　—Yes, they are.
　　—是的，它们是。
　　—Is this your bag?
　　—这是你的书包吗？
　　—No, it isn’t.
　　—不，它不是。
