【细嚼慢咽】小议as long as

       1. as long as意为“只要”，与so long as同义，用于引导条件状语从句。当主句为一般将来时，从句要用一般现在时表示将来发生的动作，即“主将从现”。如：
　　You may take this book away as/so long as you return it on time.
　　只要你按时归还，就可以把这本书拿走。
　　As long as you tell the truth, I’ll try to help you.
　　只要你告诉我实情，我会尽力帮助你。
　　2. as long as意为“既然；由于；因为”，表示原因。如：
　　As long as you are going, I’ll go too.
　　既然你要去，那么我也去。
　　As  long as we’ve driven this far, we might as well go on.
　　我们既然已经驾驶得这么远了，就不妨继续前进。
　　3. as long as意为“与……一样长（久）”，在否定句中，可说成(not) as/so long as。如：
　　The green pencil is as long as the red one.
　　这支绿铅笔和那支红色的一样长。
　　Tom didn’t stay there as/so long as David.
　　汤姆在那儿待得不如大卫长久。
